Cheers News
Here’s What Happened...in case you couldn’t join us!
St. Mary’s Sunday Evening
Teen Discussion Group
A Cheers Challenge:
Anyone interested in working on new lyrics to the Cheers song to
customize it to own experiences and/or possibly creating a photo collage to go
with it? If so, Bob Kardaz is willing to
help record the finished product so it sounds great…this could be used to make
others more aware of our group. Any
takers? Contact Miss O. for details.
(Maryna volunteered to help with the video collage if anyone is interested in
working on that with her.)
Gift Exchange:
Leah
suggested that we do a gift exchange. It
was decided to do this after Christmas on Jan. 8th. This will be a Facebook event. Anyone interested should bring a gender
neutral gift valued at $15 and join in a fun exchange. Laughter, good food and great company
guaranteed!
There
was some discussion of decorating the JAM Center for Christmas. Anyone interested?
Cookie Decorating Service Opportunity: Come help to decorate and
wrap cookies (other items?) for the elderly, and eat some as well, while
singing or listening to Christmas carols and getting in the giving mood. Martha H. will check for availability of
Marian Hall on Dec. 4th at 6 PM.
Maryna, Alexis, Miss O and Amanda each volunteered to bake one or two
dozen cookies to bring to decorate.
Martha Hollihan will also bring a bunch of cookies and icing, sprinkles,
etc for decorating. Will explore later
when/where the cookie packages will be distributed and to whom.Bright
colored ribbon would be welcomed if anyone can bring some.
March for Life:
Consensus: those teens present expressed a desire to go on the 11 PM bus
on January 22, 2012 so that they can be present to go to the big Mass. Fr. Jay will be there. Our Parish has 54 tickets and right now there
are 36 signed up from the 8th grade. Miss O is checking into the
number from our group who might attend and getting the consent forms. Get your consent forms at the JAM Center and
fill them out early!
Topics for Our Discussions: Everyone is encouraged to suggest topics that
they are interested in discussing. There
was a suggestion about showing the Passion of Christ film by Mel Gibson during
Lent, and a comment that we might continue doing what we have been doing. Check out Leah’s comments on our Facebook
page. This is an ongoing invitation to
be more involved in picking your topics for discussion!
Opportunities to be More Active in Peer Leadership
of Your Group: Make this your group! Earn service hours and take a peer leadership
role which will also look great on your resume.
There
are plenty of opportunities to fit your skills and time availability. A sign up sheet was passed around and will
continue to be available so that any teens who are interested in helping with
this aspect of making our group more relevant can choose their role.
The Magical Holiday Christmas Spectacular – Upper St. Clair High
School, Dec.11th 4 PM. This
is an opportunity to see our own Leah Hungerman dance! Leah is an incredible dancer and it would be
great if some of us could go and cheer her on and bring back glowing reports of
her talents! Proceeds go to Children’s
Way. Tickets are $14 each. If
you are interested in going, let Leah or Mrs. Hungerman know. It’s Your Life! Miss
O showed a short music video entitled It’s
Your Life by Francesca Battistelli.
Some thoughts for the week:
Are
you who you always said you’d be?
Live
the way you believe.
It’s
your life whatcha gonna do with it?
See
you next Sunday…same time, same place!
