Emails to our Troops

St. Mary School is participating in a program, sponsored by Sen. Jane Orie's Office. This is our second year where students in grades 3-8 send words of encouragement to an anonymous member of the U.S. military.  All emails are typed in computer class, and then submitted to Jane Orie's office.  Each is reviewed for validity by Jane Orie's office and then submitted to the troops.

Grade 4 Project

We are using KidPix to create autobiographies.  KidPix is a child's version of PowerPoint, a presentation package.  Each child must create 4 basic slides:  Intro, Birthday, Friends and Hobbies.  After that, they may add as many more as they wish.

As each student finishes, he/she has the option of presenting the show to the class on the projection screen.

Grade 5

Native American Indian Project.  Each student was assigned a Native American Indian by Mrs. R.  The students use the Internet to research information on their Indians...somethimes this information is not always easy to find.  As information is gathered, the students determine the facts needed for the assignment and present their findings in a PowerPoint Presentation.

This is the first year that Grade 5 is using PowerPoint and they seem to be enjoying it.  The presentations included clipart and photographs.

Each child then takes a picture with the digital camera and inserts the digital photograph at the end of the PowerPoint.

Grade 6, 7 and 8

We have been creating PowerPoint Presentations that link all of the projects that the students have created since the beginning of the school year. This project includes clipart, photographs and animation.

The web page links are organized using a table feature.

Many of the project the students completes use word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages.

Keyboarding is taught approximately 20 minutes per week.
