WELCOME TO ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION
TODAY "LAETARE" SUNDAY
Two times a year the Sunday Liturgy offers the possibility of wearing rose-colored vestments. Today, the FOURTH Sunday of Lent, sometimes referred to as LAETARE(so named for the first word of the Entrance Song which is "Rejoice" from Isaiah, chapter 66) is one of those Sundays. The other is the THIRD Sunday of Advent, called GAUDETE, again from the first word of the Entrance Song. The usage of this color of rose suggests that we have crossed over the half way mark of the Lenten Season and the joy of Easter is on the horizon. Even though we have set aside the Latin wording of the liturgy, the Church reminds us that even in the midst of this penitential season, when we accentuate the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, there is still a glimmer of hope as we anticipate the coming of the Easter glory.
