In February 2017, we are starting an exciting program of evangelization and discipleship, called Alpha, at St. Mary’s. Alpha has been experienced by 29 million people – including Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox Christians, non-Christians and non-believers – in 169 countries. Endorsed by Catholic cardinals and bishops throughout the world, Alpha has been shown to be especially effective in bringing people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Catholics who have run Alpha have reported that it has brought people to faith, deepened the faith of believers, and helped to create a stronger sense of community in their parishes.
The Alpha program is slated to start Wednesday, February 1st, and will run every Wednesday night through April 5th (exception is Tuesday, February 28 as Ash Wednesday is the next day). Each session will be held in Marian Hall. Every evening will begin with dinner at 6:30 pm and conclude at 8:30 pm. Each small group will consist of 8-10 people. Additionally, there will be a Saturday retreat (March 4th) that focuses on the Holy Spirit.
The small groups discussions are a way to explore the topics set forth in the video in a non-judgmental and relaxed manner. There is not “preaching or teaching”. Just conversation that allows for honest sharing and expression of questions individuals may have.
Registration is full for our first Alpha session that began Wednesday, February 1st. Please pray for the 30 members of the Alpha team as well as the 100 Alpha participants as we journey together to deepen our faith and join together in fellowship with each other.
We will offer more Alpha sessions in 2017 (dates TBD). You can register for the future sessions below, and an email will be sent to you when we establish the dates. The Holy Spirit is working in amazing ways in our parish family!
